Dr. Lonnie Clark Redus , MD

Dr. Lonnie Clark Redus, 93, of Amarillo died Friday, May 17, 2013.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church, 1300 S. Tyler St., with Dr. Howard K. Batson and the Rev. Reed Redus officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Dr. Redus was born March 26, 1920, in Dallas to Lonnie and Ruth Redus. He graduated from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas before attending Southern Methodist University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree. He served his country in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific before being honorably discharged as a Major. During his service, his plane was shot down over the China Sea. Upon his discharge, he married Elvena Wilkey on July 7, 1946, in Braman, Okla.

He then attended Southwestern Medical School, where he obtained his M.D. He did his residency at University of Oklahoma Hospital. He practiced medicine in Weatherford, Okla., for 12 years. Together they moved to Amarillo in 1963 where he practiced medicine until 1986.

Dr. Redus loved his Lord and his family with all of his heart. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 50 years where he sang in the sanctuary choir for many years. He loved woodworking and continued working with power saws even after he had lost his sight. He loved to travel with his wife and family in their motorhome. He was an avid reader and enjoyed books on tape after losing his sight. He also loved to fish and had the opportunity to travel with his friends and fish all over the country.

Dr. Redus was an accomplished musician. He played with S.M.U. Mustang band. He had a great love for jazz music and put himself through college playing the string bass in jazz bands.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Ronald Clark Redus, in 2006.

Survivors include wife, Elvena Redus of Amarillo; a son, Mark Redus of Amarillo; a daughter, Jana Gibbs and husband Duncan of Peachtree City, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Pam Redus of Amarillo; a sister, Hazel Laverne LeFevre of Gainsville, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Mary Ann Leinen and husband Derek, Ronald Clark Redus II and wife Kasey, Rebecca Redus Smith and husband Ben, David Gibbs, 1st. Lt. Bryan Gibbs and wife Jenna, Michael Gibbs and wife Katelyn, Reed Redus and wife Amy, Cpt. Riley Redus and wife Rebekah and Desaray Jimenez; nine great-grandchildren, Reagan, Brooks and Grant Leinen, Audrey and Asa Redus, Noah and Emmarie Redus and Sierra and Ella Redus.
The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church Music Ministry or Audio-Visual Library.

My Grand Aunt Has Passed Away

My grand aunt, Helen Marie Ferguson-Van Horn, passed away Sunday evening, 3 July 2011, in San Antonio, Texas, after a short illness. She was 93 years old. She was preceeded in death by her parents Norman Edward Ferguson and Florence Mabel Weatherby, and her husband, Victor Clark Van Horn. She is survived by her four children: Jerilyn Kay Bailey, Judy Rae Cross, Jack Clark Van Horn, and Janet Faye Howard, their spouses and children.

My favorite memories of Aunt Helen were the many Christmas Eve's we celebrated at her and uncle Vic's house, several family reunions, and all of us celebrating her 75th birthday in San Antonio. She was a fellow family genealogist and a very sweet lady. She will be missed by all who loved her.

Ellen Joyce Tudor, 70, of Altus, passed away on April 2, 2011, in her home in Altus. Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Davis officiating.

Inurnment of cremated remains will follow at a later date at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin.

Services are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Ellen Joyce Seay was born on Nov. 6, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, to William Boyd and Ellanora Laura (Schmidt) Seay.

When Ellen was three, she and her family moved from Texas to Oklahoma, and throughout her childhood lived in Friendship, Cache, Altus, Oklahoma City, Ardmore, Hartshorne, Blair, and Elk City. Ellen graduated from high school in Elk City.

She met Robert M. "Bob" Tudor, while he was in the military, and the two were married in Elk City on Feb. 14, 1959. They moved all over the United States, including Topeka, Kansas, Chicopee Falls, Mass., and Las Vegas. Ellen and Bob finally made their home in Altus in 1975. Ellen graduated from real estate college in 1985. She began work at Gregg, Buck and Roberson Agency, later working at the Dempsey Agency. She has since been self employed as a real estate broker with Tudor Real Estate. She was past president of the Altus Board of Realtors, past president of the Jackson County Democratic Women and was currently the treasurer.

Ellen was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was involved with the Grace United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Tudor graciously volunteered her time at the Threshold Services and the Great Plains Literary Council and was a member of the Jackson County Democratic Women. She loved gardening and traveling, but above all, she liked spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Bill Seay.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Bob of the home; three sons, Robert Matthew Tudor of Oklahoma City, Phillip Jared Tudor and his wife Susan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jon Anthony Tudor and his wife Jody of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Anna Tudor, Jenna Tudor, Kiley Tudor, and Nick Long; a sister, Myrtle Mae Eubank of Altus; a brother, Franklin Delano Seay, of Grandview, Texas; a step-sister, Judy Griffith of Arizona; and two stepbrothers, Louis Boyd and Bill Boyd, both of Norman.

Edwina Lee Brantly-Redus Has Passed Away

I have received word from cousin George M. Redus Sr, that his sister-in-law, Edwina Lee Brantly-Redus, passed away this morning. She was the wife of John Clement Redus, Jr. who passed away just last April.

Edwina Lee Redus died August 30, 2009. She was born in Hollister, Oklahoma on October 8, 1921, the oldest child of Robert T. and Allie Brantly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, John C Redus, Jr. Edwina is survived by her brother, Robert and wife, Betty; daughter, Elizabeth Newell and husband, Chuck; grandsons, Patrick and Timothy Newell. Other survivors include Audrey Brians, Mildred Brooks, Clifford and Lorene Redus, Allan and Sonia Redus, Jean Redus, George and Kay Redus, Loretta Redus and many nieces and nephews. Edwina moved to Devine, Texas as a teenager. It was in Devine that she met and married John C. Redus Jr in 1945 after his return from World War II. Edwina worked at Kelly AFB for 40 years. She and John C. delighted in traveling to Europe, Alaska and Hawaii. They were charter members of the Kum Dubl (Come Double) Sunday School class at Travis Heights Methodist and were also members of Laurel Heights Methodist. A strong and determined woman, Edwina was devoted to her family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Redus Cousin Passes Away

It is with deep sadness that I have to announce the passing of John Clement Redus, Jr. on April 21 in San Antonio. John's funeral was Saturday (April 25). To all of John's family and friends, especially to his brother George Redus, please accept our deepest sincere sympathy.

John Clement Redus, Jr. died on April 21, at the age of 93. He was born on a farm south of Devine, Texas on Nov. 7, 1915, the second of John C. Sr., and Hazel Redus' fourteen children. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. John C. is survived by Edwina, his wife of 63 years, daughter Elizabeth Newell and her husband Chuck, grandsons, Patrick Newell and Timothy Newell, brothers, Bill Redus, George Redus and wife Kay, Clifford Redus and wife, Lorene, Allen Ray Redus and wife Sonia, and by sister, Mildred Brooks. Also surviving are sister-in-laws Loretta Redus and Jean Redus, brother-in-law Robert Brantly and wife Betty, and by many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Devine High School in 1933, John C. moved to San Antonio, where he worked for many years at Central Distributing Co. When World War II broke out, he joined the Army Air Corp, serving for 4 years, three of which were overseas in the Pacific. John C. was a member of the Kum Dubl Class at Travis Park United Methodist Church for 50 years. He spent the last ten years in the Believer's Class at Laurel Heights Methodist. John C. was a devoted husband, a kind and loving father and a proud grandfather. The other loves of his life were Texas Longhorn football, his backyard garden, and his ever-present camera. He was always eager to plan another trip to Europe. An avid reader, he preferred military and political history, and loved keeping up with current events. He always saw the best in every person and made friends to the end. He was kind and generous, unpretentious and steadfast. He was devoted to his many brothers and sisters and looked forward with great anticipation to the annual Redus Reunion, where many childhood memories where shared with relish. He will be sadly missed this year, and in all the years to come.

Making Progress on my Law Family Research

I have finally made some headway in my Law family research. Here are some of the latest, and maybe one of you will recognize something to help me with the British portion of my research.

My 3rd great grandmother is Margareta Law (b. 2 Apr 1840, Howard Co, MO and d. 3 Jun 1918, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA)

She married my 3rd great grandfather Thaddeus Damascus Van Horn (b. 20 Oct 1820, Claiborne Co, MS and d. 5 Apr 1905, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA) on 12 Aug 1856, in St. Paul's Church, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA.

Now the for the new stuff.

Margareta and George's mother is Mary Ann Simmonds. Until about a month ago, not only could I not confirm that, but I never knew much at all about her.

I believe Mary Ann Simmonds married Richard Horton Law, sometime around the middle 1830s somewhere in the UK. I believe Richard was born in the UK around 1793, parents unknown. He appeared to disappear, probably passed away c. 1846 in Howard Co, MO, based on the best evidence we have right now. I have an IGI marriage records Richard Law m Ann Simms 21 Apr 1834, Saint Martin, Birmingham, Warwick, England. Not sure if this is them or what.

I next see Mary Ann on the US 1850 census in New Orleans with her children in New Orleans running a boarding house at 12 Carandolet.

On 6 March 1854, she married William D. Leland, in New Orleans. She signed as mother for her 16 years old daughter Margareta to marry in 1856. She then disappeared completely after that life event, until recently.

So sometime after 1856 she returned to the UK, apparently married a man named Burlingson (I find no marriage record at this point over here so I assume she married in the UK), and died in London.

I have no information on her parents, info on her last marriage, when she returned to the UK, or where she is buried. Can anybody in the UK tell me where she is buried and if a tombstone pic is available? I don't have a clue where to check on London cemetery transcipts and pics.

Any help in filling in these last few holes of her life would be sincerely appreciated.

Family Profile: George H. Law Sr.

One of my favorite uncles in my family database is the subject of this family profile. He was a remarkable man who served during the Civil War in not only the Confederate Army, but Navy as well.

His name was George H. Law, my 3rd great grand uncle, and he was born in May 1838 in Howard County, Missouri. We believe he is the son of Richard and Mary Ann Law who were immigrants from England probably arriving here in the late 1830s. The only Law family in Missouri on the 1840 census, was a Richard Law in Howard County. This is the last time we see any mention of Richard and nothing is known about what happened to him after that point. Based on the enumeration of that census I believe that he may have been the father of our Law family. There is one other possible name that we have not been able to tie up that I will mention later.

Not much is known about George's first decade on this earth, but on the 1850 Federal census we see him and his sisters living with their mother (listed as Mrs. Law head of household) in New Orleans, Louisiana. Mrs. Law was running a boarding house in the 3rd ward of the city.

In 1855 George was listed in the New Orleans City directory and his occupation was listed as a clerk with a business at 5 Camp Street just west of Canal Street in New Orleans. In the 1856 City Directory, 5 Camp Street was listed as his residence address. I was unable to locate him or the family on the 1860 census, but the City Directory did list his residence as 394 Magazine Street in New Orleans.

In 1856 his sister Margareta Law (b. April 2, 1840 in Missouri) was married to Thaddeus Damascus Van Horn of New Orleans (see a profile on this blog for him and his family). Since Margareta was under age to marry, her mother had to sign the marriage record giving her permission to marry. She was listed as Mary Ann Leland. An intriguing witness that signed Margareta and Thaddeus' marriage license was a Fred Law. Nothing more is known about Richard or Fred Law and after 1856, Mary Ann Leland is not seen again in any record I have checked. These people all remain a mystery to me.

George also had two sisters, Emily (b. 1841 in Missouri) and Sophia (b. 1842 in Missouri). Nothing more is known about Emily, but Sophia died on August 17, 1853, in New Orleans, during the Yellow Fever epidemic of that year. She was buried in the Protestant/Girod Street Cemetery. Those graves were later moved to make way for the construction of the Louisiana Superdome, and we are not sure were she is buried in the city today.

After the Civil War broke out, George enlisted in Confederate service with the famed Washington Artillery, Company 5. He enlisted as a private and was present on all muster rolls to December 1863. On the roll for January 1-April 30, 1864, it listed him absent for a furlough for 30 days by order of General Johnston. Rolls from May 1864-April 1865 indicated he as absent from the Washington Artillery and that he had reported to Confederate States Navy, but no official notice had been received. Based on an accounting of his muster rolls, we know that he was present at the battles of Jackson (MS), Glass' Mills (GA) and Chickamauga (GA).

After many years of searching we have finally been able to document his Confederate naval service. From the website http://www.tfoenander.com/maconcrew.htm, we known that he served as a gunner on board the CSS Macon. This vessel was a wooden steam gunboat of about 150 feet length, which carried 6 guns. She was formerly named the Ogeechee, which was fitted out in early 1864 at Savannah, Georgia, and commissioned in the Confederate States Navy. The vessel was renamed the Macon in June of that year, and reported as being ready for duty by early August, although her crew numbers were still below the required amount of about 100. When Savannah was taken by Union forces in late December, 1864, the CSS Macon moved up the Savannah River, on December 24, to Augusta, Georgia, where she remained until the end of the war. [DANFS 2, 545.]

After the war, George moved back to New Orleans and his 394 Magazine address per the City Directories.

Sometime circa 1866, George married Eugenia Caroline Poole (b. Apr 1845 in Louisiana). She was the daughter of Major William Lawrence Poole (1804-1893) and Mary Catherine Cotton (1808- bef 1880). In 1866, George's occupation was listed as a clerk for a business located at 167 Canal Street. His residence was listed as 82 Euterpe and Apollo. On May 12, 1867, George and Caroline were listed as the god parents at the baptism for one of Thaddeus and Margareta's children, Anna Gertrude Van Horn. This ceremony took place at the Trinity Episcopal Church at 1329 Jackson Avenue in New Orleans.

In 1869, the New Orleans City Directory listed George's occupation as a clerk at Louis Grunewald and in 1870 the family moved to a new home at 354 St. Andrews in New Orleans. Sometime between July 1873 (the birth date of their fourth child) and December 1874, George moved his family to Cuero, DeWitt County, Texas. The 1880 Federal census listed his occupation as a railroad agent. Starting in 1893, we found records showing that he was an officer in the Emmett Lynch Confederate Veterans Camp in Cuero.

In 1899, George and his family were on the move again, this time setting up shop in Galveston, Texas, were he remained until his death on June 21, 1905.

George and Caroline had six children (listed below)

1. Mary Cotton Law b. November 1867 New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana; d. March 19, 1881 New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana; burial place unknown

2. George H. Law Jr. b. Mar 1869 New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana; d.January 4, 1945 Seattle, King Co, Washington; burial place unknown. He married a Cara W. ? in 1902 in Texas and we have documented two known children.

3. Harry Woodward Law b. December 1871 New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana; d. June 12, 1948 Tacoma, Pierce Co, Washington; burial place unknown. He married a Johnnie ? in 1898. We have no known children from this marriage.

4. Eugenia Carolina Law b. July 1873 New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana; d. November 30, 1874 New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana; burial place unknown

5. Thaddeus Van Horn Law b. April 11, 1876 Cuero, DeWitt Co, Texas; d. March 22, 1943 Galveston, Galveston Co, Texas; buried in the Oleander Cemetery in Galveston. He married Myrtle Grey circa 1909 in Galveston. They had one son Thad Allen Law b. March 1, 1912 Galveston, Galveston Co, Texas; d. May 3, 1973 Galveston, Galveston Co, Texas; buried in Old City Cemetery in Galveston. he was never married and did serve in the Army during WWII.

Earlier this week I finally found an obituary for George H. Law Sr. on Ancestry.com that fills in some additional details on his life. That obit is presented below. We still do not have any end of life information on George's wife Caroline and are actively seeking that information

Deputy County Clerk and an old Citizen Expired Suddenly Yesterday

Mr. George H. Law Sr., Deputy County Clerk for Galveston County, died yesterday and an old citizen of Galveston, died yesterday afternoon, aged 67 years. The death was quite unexpected, and came as a surprise and shock to the many friends of the deceased. For two or three days past Mr. Law had complained of feeling badly, but had continued his duties at the County Clerk's office, where he was usually engaged in recording deeds, transfers and other instruments. Yesterday morning he came to work as usual, arriving at the office shortly before 8 o'clock, somewhat earlier than his custom. About noon he left the office and went home to dinner. About 2 o'clock he left home and came to town going to the office of Dr. W.C. Fisher for the evident purpose of securing medical attention.

Dr. Fisher was not in his office, and Mr. Law inquired of Dr. H.R. Dudgeon, who has his office adjoining, as to what time Dr. Fisher was expected in stating that he was feeling bad. Dr. Dudgeon went to his office, and in a short time heard Mr. Law breathing loudly, and upon going in found him lying over in his chair, very pale a gasping. he took him from the chair and laid him on the floor, where he died in a few moments.

Coroner R.H. Barry was called, and after an examination sanctioned the removal of the body to the undertaker's, giving it as his verdict that came to his death from natural causes. While no opinion as to the cause of his death was expressed by the doctors present, none of them had any previous experience with the case. The opinion was generally prevalent that he died from failure of the heart, due probably to acute indigestion.

George H. Law Sr. was born in Louisiana (exactly Missouri-LVH) in 1838. After seeing gallant service with the Confederacy during the Civil War, he removed from Louisiana to Texas, settling at Indianola, where he accepted a responsible position with the Morgan Steamship and Railway Company. Later he removed to Cuero, where he was for many years agent for the Morgan lines. After resigning this position he went into the insurance business. he came permanently to Galveston about 1899, and since that time has been constantly connected with the office of County Clerk, first during the terms of office of his son, George H. law, Jr., and later as deputy under the present Clerk, Mr. George F. Burgess. Surviving him are the widow and three sons. George H. Law, Jr., now residing in Seattle, Wash, Thad Law and Harry Law, both of whom live in Galveston.

Deceased was a valued citizen, a true friend and an obliging and cheerful official. He was a Knight Templar Mason, and the funeral, which will occur tomorrow evening at Cuero, will be under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity.

Sir Knights of San Felipe de Austin Commandery No. 1 are requested to be at the asylum this evening at 6:15 o'clock to escort the remains of Sir Knight George H. Law Sr. to the train.

Nancy Ann Arnold Redus Obituary

Doniphan- Nancy Ann Redus, 91, of Gatewood died Wednesday, May 25,2005 at her residence. Mrs. Redus was born May 22, 1914 in Billings, Mont. She was a member of the New Home Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, sewing, quilt making, watching soap operas and horse training.

She first marred Harry Vance and later married Everett Redus, both preceding her in death.

Survivors include six sons, Clarence Redus of Wappapello, Bennie Redus of Fairdealing, Johnny Redus of Gatewood, Joseph Redus of Doniphan, Truman Redus of Sharon, Wis. and Buster Redus of Gatewood; three daughters, Mary Ann Karlberg-Yock of Milwaukee, Wis., Etta Pullen of Poplar Bluff and Virgie Redus of Gatewood; one stepson, Tony Redus of Pacifica; one stepdaughter, Leona Hudson of Doniphan; 41 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Melvin Arnold and Suzanne White Arnold; three brothers; six sisters; three stepchildren, Raney Redus, Pete Redus, and Maudie Dodd; and three children, Hershell Vance, Gene Vance and Virgil Redus.

Visitation will be from 6-8p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the New Home Baptist Church with Joe McDonald officiating. This was the wife of Clarence Thomas. Redus, who was the son of Everett Sherman and Nancy Ann Arnold Redus.

Opal Redus, 72, of Wappapello died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at Three Rivers Healthcare-North in Poplar Bluff. She was a homemaker and was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Coldwater. Mrs. Redus was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed quilting, crafts, shopping and taking pictures.

On Dec. 5, 1949, she was married to Clarence T. Redus in Pocahontas, Ark., and he survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Banks of Wright City and Joanna Linson of St. Peters; three sons, Larry Redus of Lake of the Ozarks, Dirke Redus of Jefferson City and Steve Redus of Belle; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; her mother, Hazel (Waddle) Brown of Malden; five brothers, Bobby Brown of Campbell, Mike Brown of Dexter, Rick Brown of Malden, Gerald Brown of Lawton, Okla., and Jimmy Brown of Phoenix, Ariz.; and six sisters, Levieda Burke of Arnold, Charlotte Clifton of Bloomsdale, Sharon Butler of Poplar Bluff, Carolyn Bedwell of Lawton, Okla, Sandra Brown of Malden and Betty Cunningham of Wappapello; and a special friend, Sandy Brown Cunningham of Wappapello.

Visitation was Saturday evening at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. There will be a visitation at 11 a.m. Monday at the New Home Church in Gatewood with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Joe McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the New Home Cemetery in Gatewood.

Services for Lillian K. Redus will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Terpening & Son Chapel.

Redus, 98, of 320 N. Eastern, Moore, Okla., passed away Jan. 24, at a nursing home in Moore, Okla. Burial will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Park.

Visitation at Terpening & Son Mortuary will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Redus was born Dec. 22, 1904, in Peru, Kan., to William Smith and Mary (Bascom) Smith. She married Charles E. Rinehart on June 4, 1949, in Ft. Worth, Texas. He preceded her in death April 26, 1975. Her second husband was J. D. Redus, whom she married Jan. 6, 1983, in Artesia. He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1986. She came to Artesia in 1956 from Lovington and was a homemaker and a member of Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one sister, Grace L. Young and husband Carroll of Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one brother, two sisters and a daughter.

FLORENCE - June Redus, 73, Florence, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Mrs. Redus was born June Johnson on July 2, 1932, in McClave, Colo. She was a homemaker and had various jobs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard "Pete," in 1985; and a daughter, Vondell.

Survivors include two sons, Victor Moore of Norman, Okla., and Virgil Moore of Barstow, Calif.; two brothers, Roger Johnson and Bob Johnson, both of Florence; four sisters, Ruth Whitcomb of Hamilton, Mont., Cora Lee Gould of Glendore, Calif., Faye Price of Waco, Texas, and Anne Powell of West Covina, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence. There will be no visitation. The casket will be open at the cemetery. Zeiner Funeral Home, 104 W. Fifth, Florence 66851, is handling arrangements.

FLORENCE - June Redus, 73, died May 23, 2006, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

She was born July 2, 1932, in McLave, Colo., the daughter of Leonard and Opal Jones Johnson. A resident of Florence for 20 years, she was a homemaker and had worked various jobs. On April 9, 1966, she married Leonard "Pete" Redus in Las Vegas. He died July 11, 1985.

George Thomas Redus of Shawnee died Saturday, Feb. 14, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 75. He was born Jan. 14, 1929, in Stillwater, to Samuel and Margaret Goforth Redus. He managed Consumers Service Station for 17 years and owned Nifty Foods convenience store. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was on the board of trustees of the First Assembly of God Church in Shawnee.

He married Allene Carr on May 30, 1964, in Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one son.

He is survived by his wife, Allene Redus, of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, George Thomas Jr. and Linda Redus of Stratford, Randy Eugene Redus and fiancee Angela Shirey of Shawnee and Ricky Dean Redus of California; three daughters and one son-in-law, Sandy and Phil Ledford of Kansas, Christy Redus of California and Alice Burnett of Shawnee; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Leamon and Elvira Redus of Stratford, Donnie and Barbara Redus of Piedmont and Jackie and Carmine Redus of Piedmont; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Florine and Junior Monroe of Yukon and Loretta Hannigan of Piedmont; six grandchildren and spouses, Jason Lee Redus of Oklahoma City, Kyle James Redus of Shawnee, Amanda and Jeremy Brook of Austin, Texas, Chelsea Rae Lefler of Fitcher, Texas, Dana and Randy Pike of Skiatook, and Ace and Amy Lockard of Portland, Ore.; six more grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Walter officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

PEARLAND - Alvin Allison Redus, 94, of Pearland, died Monday, April 3, 2006.

He was born Jan. 26, 1912, in Black Creek, to the late James Ware Jr. and Anna Radicke Redus. He worked for Celanese Corp., helped build Dick Kleberg Park and managed Kaufer Park in Loyola Beach. He restored the old icehouse in Kingsville into Connor Museum. He was a retired carpenter, house painter and oil field worker. He was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors: former wife, Lois Cooper of Kingsville; daughters, Beverly Edlin of Riviera and Brenda Hansen of Lake Jackson; sons, Jim Redus of Liberty, Mo., Billy Redus of Cleveland, Texas, Stanley Redus of Kingsville, Clint Redus of Clewiston, Fla., and Michael Redus of Pearland; brothers, Clarence Redus of Honey Island and Alton Redus of Inez; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: second wife, Mildred Redus; three sisters; and five brothers.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

Services will be 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Rodney Schuler officiating.

Born at Warm Springs, she worked at Vitronic.

Survivors include, her husband, Willie Redus of Alton; four sons, Billy Redus of Maynard, Max Redus of Warm Springs and Dwight Redus and Delane Redus, both of Pocahontas; four daughters, Mary Hinkle of Trumann, Beverly Crawford of Alton and Leveda McCamey and Jean Watson, both of Pocahontas; one brother, James Griffin of Woodland, Wash.; two stepbrothers, Cledis McNew of Toledo, Wash., and Cecil McNew of Woodland; one sister, Sophia McNew of Farmington, Ky.; three stepsisters, JoAnn Fleury of Woodland, Ethel Tillman of Doniphan, Mo., and Evelyn Knoblock of Anderson, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas, with Joe McDonald and Terry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in New Home Cemetery at Tucker, Mo.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Miller, Scott Miller, Leslie Redus, B.J. Redus, Brad Redus, Jason Redus, Kendal Redus, James Watson, Jeremy Watson and Chris Tyler.

Honorary pallbearers will include Vicki Miller, Sherry Griffin, Shelia Ingram, Angela Redus, Valerie Redus, Marla Beck, Melissa Lane, Pam Brown, Rachel Watson, Carrie Redus and Brandy Redus.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
